First because he had been nominated for the real Nobel Peace Prize but he did not receive it yet, second because he is a great fighter of human rights while he is living in a country afflicted by war, and third because he is well known for ‘fixing’ raped women during armed conflicts.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mukwege’s country, gang wartime rape is a part of the armed forces’ strategies. They torture, smash genitals, disembowel pregnant women and leave just horror behind them. Mukwege met thousands of women destroyed by combatants during fights. Has a gynecologist, he repairs internal physical damage of these women, but he does not stop there. His medical care is also mental, economic and juridical.

Thereby, for this stupendous man who never stops to denounce and to fight what is happening in his country even after he escaped an attempted murder, please congratulate our first Nobel Prize!

And for those who want to know more about Denis Mukwege, you can have a look at these 5 minutes of TV reportage and if you have more time, we recommend the Belgium documentary L’Homme qui répare les femmes : La Colère d’Hippocrate (The Man Who Mends Women: The Wrath of Hippocrates).
